Chalk Drawings for 2018 Women’s Final Four

Nationwide Realty Investors contracted Rock On Ice to create chalk drawings of the 2018 Women’s Final Four logos. These logo were 4ft x 6ft and were located outside various bars in the Arena District. It was truly a family affair, as our children were out of school that day, so we brought them along to help!

Ice Sculpture Displays to Enhance Your Easter Brunch

Now is the time when country clubs will be hosting their Easter brunches. Ice can be used to chill your food or to simply take your displays from boring to wow! We have collected some of our most popular displays which include color, 3D, and even fruit.

Ice Sculpting Class for Columbus Academy

Rock On Ice visited high school students at Columbus Academy to show them some fantastic Ice Sculpting skills. We entertained three classes with open discussions, speed carving, and hands-on interactive sculptures.

The classes consisted of high school aged students that lasted 45 minutes. Each class had 20 students. We began with an open discussion in which the students had the opportunity to ask our master sculptor, Greg Butauski, anything they wanted to know about the cool world of being an ice sculptor.

We then moved on to our speed carving demonstrations which ran for about 20 minutes each. Here are the sculptures made from each class. Greg carved a swordfish, a shark, a bass, and a snowman for the speed carving.

To finish up the class we let the students collaborate and build their own ice creations by freezing on pre-made ice shapes. The interactive portion of this activity lasted about 10 minutes each.

Pictured here are students with their completed ice sculptures. Great work!

Rock On Ice can provide various types of demonstrations for schools and libraries. We have carved ice, pumpkins, fruit, and even soap! Check out our demonstrations on our website for more information.

Gnomes in Ice

Rock On Ice was commissioned again for 2018 to create a magical ice experience in Frankenmuth, Michigan – this year was no exception! If you love gnomes, then check out this enormous 105 block ice display for Zehnder’s annual Snowfest.

The total ice sculpture scene was 30 feet long and 12 feet tall.

There were 6 carvers that helped create the village where visitors look for gnomes carved in all the different ice sculptures. The display took over over two weeks to complete. (As the saying goes, gnome wasn’t built in a day.)

School Demonstrations

Rock On Ice can provide schools with fun, educational, interactive activities. We visited General Rosecrans Elementary on two separate occasions for interactive demonstrations: soap carving a turkey, and building an ice castle wall.

For “Pioneer Days” we used about 80 bar soaps to create this turkey carved from soap. Master carver, Greg Butauski, pre-carved the head and body. Bars of soap were carved into feathers by the students, and then were secured in place with toothpicks.
The students were very excited to get to participate in this fun, hands-on activity!

For a different event at the school, we came in
to build an ice castle wall. Ice blocks were pre-carved
and brought in for the students.

Best of October Pumpkin Carving

October was crazy busy for Rock On Ice with pumpkin carving and pumpkin carving demonstrations.

Rock On Ice traveled all across Ohio and even outside Ohio to bring pumpkins to life! We carved pumpkins as small as 20 lbs. to over
1,000 lbs. In all, we carved over 400 pumpkins in October.
We carved pumpkins for Fall Festivals, Zoo’s, Corporate Events,
and Trick-or-Treat events.

Here are some of our favorite pumpkin pics from this Fall…enjoy!

Gift An Ice Sculpture or Fruit Carving

Need a unique gift idea for a relative or friend but have completely run out of ideas? Then perhaps you should consider an ice sculpture or fruit carving.

Gift cards, flowers, perfume—these are some common gifts to give someone, but if you are looking for something truly unique, then a customized ice sculpture or fruit carving is the answer.

Rock on Ice can take any interests or hobbies and incorporate them into a one-of-a-kind sculpture. We can design personalized sculptures for weddings, birthdays, graduations—any special occasion you can think of, we can design a sculpture that will create that wow factor.

All we need is an idea and you can sit back and let us do all the work!

Ice Sculpture Display of a Life Size Kitchen – Over 2 Tons of Ice!

Ice-Kitchen-for-Zehnder's-Snowfest

Rock On Ice created a life size ice kitchen for Zehnder’s Snowfest in Frankenmuth, Michigan. This ice kitchen used 130 blocks of ice and was over 45,000 lbs. of ice…that’s about 2 tons! The kitchen consisted of: three ovens, a 12 burner stove with grill and griddle, pastry station, wood burning oven, cooler, dish tank, and an interactive dining room table with seating. Take a look at this unbelievable display that took 5 days to complete.

Pumpkin Carving Installation with Over 80 Pumpkins

Rock On Ice was contracted to carve pumpkins and create a large scale pumpkin display for a zoo’s fall weekend festival. This was some serious pumpkin carving!

We started with over 80 pumpkins and had 2 days to carve.

Pumpkin Carving Demonstration for Zoo

Here we are with the team:
Titus Arensberg, Dean Murray, and Greg Butauski.

Our three carvers pulled a tag team match on the two larger pumpkins. They weighed around 500 lbs each. Each carver would work on the piece for an hour or two then break off to work on the smaller pumpkins to put around the entire display. This was truly a collaborative effort between 3 master pumpkin artists.

Here are some detail images of the Haunted House and Skeleton.

And here is the final product. In all we ended up carving 2,400 lbs.  (just over a ton) of pumpkins for this Halloween themed display!

Rock On Ice carves pumpkins for all kinds of events. We carve small and large pumpkins for doorsteps, buffet tables, centerpieces, Fall weddings, special events, Trick or Treat events, and Fall festivals. We carve large scale pumpkin displays, which have been featured at Zoo’s and area Fall festivals. We also organize large scale pumpkin carving events and competitions.

Ice Sculpting Wins at the Crystal Classic Winter Festival

Greg Butauski had another gold winning weekend at the Crystal Classic Winter Festival. The event took place February 13-14th in Green River, Wyoming. Greg won both the People’s Choice and the Individual Ice Carving competitions.

T-Rex-Ice-Sculpture-Green-River-Competition

The first day was the People’s Choice. Greg carved his infamous
T-Rex sculpture and was the crowd favorite. This design was 2 blocks carved in 4 hours. Greg pulled out the win, although the weather was horrible for ice sculpting. Carvers were in a race with the sun, working in 55 degree temperatures!

Rooster-Green-River-Ice-Sculpting-CompetitionThe second day featured the individual competition. Greg carved a rooster. This was also 2 blocks and had a 4 hour time limit. Greg took First place and scored a Gold medal.

This was the final competition of the ice carving season. Check out more of Greg’s competition ice sculptures.
